Hey everyone! I hope you are doing well.
So if you’ve been keeping up with my blog for a bit, you may know that I like Taylor Swift. There are many reasons, but the main one is that I would not have started playing guitar if it weren’t for her. I saw her on stage with her guitar, playing songs that she had written, and thought, I want to play like that, and write songs like that. So I did. And since Love Story was the first song I heard by her, I was so excited when she released her rerecorded version. And now her fully rerecorded version of Fearless is on it’s way as well.
I can’t imagine what the process must’ve been like, going back to songs you wrote when you were sixteen now that you’re thirty. I know that when I play my older songs it brings up a mixed bag of feelings. But at the same time, you look back with pride of how far you’ve come, and all the memories of that era of your life. And as happy I am that she is rerecording, I’m also learning, as a creative wanting to sell her music, what to look out for going forward. That there are pros and cons to everything.
So with all that being said, I wanted to take a journey back in time to that era of my life, when Fearless was on constant rotation in my playlist. I put on my Fearless Platinum Edition vinyl, and jammed to some good ol’ country Taylor. And I figured, since songwriting and music are things I share here on the blog, why not share with you my favorite lyrics and some thoughts on this album?
So without further ado, here are my thoughts and my favorite lyric from song off of Fearless (Platinum Edition).

JUMP THEN FALL
This was one of the first songs I heard by Taylor Swift. My friend played me a bunch of her songs and I instantly fell in love with her music. It’s just a fun song and makes you feel good. I understand why it was left as a bonus track. It doesn’t have the strongest lyrics, but it’s an underrated gem that highlights the innocent kind of love we all feel as a teenager.
Fave lyric: You’ve got the keys to me, I love each freckle on your face.
It’s such a cute lyric, and is something you’d write about your high school crush. I mean, I should know, I’ve written some pretty cheesy lines for the boys I liked.

UNTOUCHABLE
This song is actually a cover of an indie rock bands song. However, I think it better suits Taylor, and the arrangement is fantastic. It’s one of my all time favorite songs of hers, and one of my favorites off of the Fearless album.
Favorite lyric: But you’re untouchable, burning brighter than the sun, and when you’re close I feel like coming undone.
It’s such a poetic way of saying that you like someone, but are too afraid to tell them. Who hasn’t been awkward and a klutz around their crush? It’s the exact feeling she sings about here. I hope that this track gets some more love in the future, because everyone can relate to these feelings.

FOREVER AND ALWAYS (PIANO VERSION)
I was originally only going to include the album version of this song, but I really like how the piano version conveys the sadness of a breakup. I think that’s what’s so beautiful about each version; one showcasing the anger and frustration towards that person, and the other showing the sadness and longing for what was once yours. Our feelings are not just one sided, and we can feel multiple feelings at the same time.
Favorite lyric: Back up, baby back up, did you forget everything?
I love the way the bridge is sung in this version, because it really adds to the feelings it conveys. The higher falsetto, the repeating of the phrase, the cello- it all adds to that feeling of longing. It’s so beautiful.

COME IN WITH THE RAIN
I love this song. It’s a classic country song and it should be talked about more. It’s well written and deserves more credit, because it tells a story, and has a beautiful arrangement. This is one that should’ve made the album, and it’s hard to pick a favorite lyric. When you write a story, you need every element to build to the resolution, and that’s what is done here.
Favorite lyric: Talk to the wind, talk to the sky, talk to the man with the reasons why, let me know what you find.
I like this one because of how vivid it is. You can see in your mind each of the characters pouring their hearts out to anyone who will listen, even shouting it to the wind. And then trying to find a reason for why things didn’t work out. It adds to the story, and the longing for a reason, or some form of resolution, which is what the song is about. Overall, this song deserves more love, because it is well written and cements her as a storyteller at a young age.

SUPERSTAR
Another cute song. It’s not my favorite, but I still like it. I think it’s another that was better suited as a bonus track. It’s still a cute song about a girl who’s in love with a superstar, but honestly, it’s nothing special. That’s just my opinion, though.
Favorite lyric: Misty morning, comes again and I can’t help but dream about your face.
This is every girl at some point in her life. Wether it’s just thinking that they are a cool person, or genuinely are in love and think you have a shot with them. It does add to what she’s recently said, about giving you the full picture. And this does showcase that part of our teenage years where we had that crush on that superstar.

THE OTHER SIDE OF THE DOOR
This is another song that is criminally underrated, and should’ve been on the album. I think this is where the iconic Taylor Swift bridge got its start (even though the part I’m talking about is the outro and not the bridge). The melodic cadence that accompanies the lyrics makes it stand out from some of the other tracks, and I don’t think we would have bridges like the ones in All Too Well, Out Of The Woods, or Champagne Problems if it weren’t for this song. I cannot wait to hear her new version of it, because it’s always been one of my favorites.
Favorite lyric: With your face and the beautiful eyes, the conversation with the little white lies, and the faded picture of a beautiful night, you carried me from your car up the stairs…
I just love the way she sings it, and it really is a masterpiece of a song.

FEARLESS
And now we get to the original tracklist. Fearless is a timeless song. It conveys the feeling of just going with the flow, doing what feels good and right, and not fearing what might happen next. You just go for it, dancing in the rain and making the most out of each moment.
Favorite lyric: And I don’t know why, but with you I’d dance in a storm in my best dress, fearless.
I love this line because you can see it. It’s a perfect visual, and is something that you would want to do with that special person, or even on your own. And it shows how each moment can be special, and how sometimes you just have to go for it, and hope it works out.

FIFTEEN
This song brings back so many memories. It perfectly describes the feelings of being fifteen. I remember being awkward, not knowing what to do or how to feel. There is so much I’d tell my fifteen year old self, because it did get better for her. And I love hearing the process of how the song was written, because that’s how it happens. Sometimes you write a line that you love, and have to work backwards to get the rest of the song.. It also reminds me of my best friend, who’s more like a sister to me. We were writing our own version of this song to fit us, and whenever I hear it I still think of her and the memories we have together. It’s a really special song to me, and brings back both good memories and lessons I’ve learned.
Favorite lyric: I’ve found time can heal most anything, and you just might find who you’re supposed to be.
This is the absolute truth. Even though everything seems complicated and rough when you are younger, you will eventually figure it out. And even if you don’t, you’ll still find something that was worth the lessons.

LOVE STORY
Ah love story. This was the first song I ever heard by Taylor Swift. I have so many good memories here as well. I also remember at the time being obsessed with classic literature, (I was really into King Arthur and the Knights Of The Round Table). This was also around the time that Gwen came into existence, and I had started writing poetry. I loved storytelling, and heard a song that did just that. Someone who was telling a story through her music. You rooted for the two lovers, and were ecstatic when they got their happy ending. I wanted to write stories like that, wether it was a novel, a song, or an article. And I haven’t stopped writing stories since.
Favorite lyric: Is this in my head, I don’t know what to think. He knelt to the ground and pulled out a ring and said…
What a great way to change the ending. It’s also where the key changes, and brings the story to it’s resolution. It’s also amazing how she was able to write her own feelings as characters in this story, similar to how she’s done the same thing with folklore and evermore. The rerecorded version is beautiful as well, and makes me even more excited for what is coming next.

HEY STEPHEN
Hey Stephen always brings me back to a specific moment in time, a specific place, and a specific evening writing in my bedroom. The songs I still write reflecting on those moments. It takes me there and I love that. It’s cool how songs can take you back to those memories. Plus it was the song that introduced the laugh in each album. I really hope she stills include that.
Favorite lyric: Well all those other girls, yeah they’re beautiful, but would they write a song for you?
Yep.

WHITE HORSE
The song that proved for us that fairytales aren’t reality. It’s a great song because she starts to see through the facade of white horses and prince charmings. It’s a song that shows her maturing, and learning the hard lessons. That if something seems too good to be true, it usually is. Don’t just fall for Prince Charming; dig deeper and find your happiness on your own first.
Favorite lyric: Cause I’m not your princess, this aint a fairytale, I’m gonna find someone one day who might actually treat me well.
She has the maturity to leave something that was toxic, and it’s such a great line. Standing up for yourself is the strongest thing to do. Sometimes you just have to go.

YOU BELONG WITH ME
Why can’t you seeee! Another song that takes me back to a specific place and time. Me and my friend tried to create our own music video for this song even, I was going to be the geeky Taylor because I kept laughing every time I tried to be mean. It was a fun time for sure. But it’s hard to recreate such an iconic music video.
Favorite lyric: And you’ve got a smile that could light up this whole town.
Yep. This lyric takes me back in time for sure.

BREATHE FEAT. COLBIE CAILLAT
This isn’t a breakup song, it’s actually about her losing a friend. Sometimes you have these moments where you learn who your real friends are. I’m very lucky to have a huge group of friends who have proven to me time and time again that they are true friends. But we do still have those that fade away or who you have to part with for a time. And that’s what this song is about. I also love Colbie Cailat and think she sounds amazing on this track.
Favorite lyric: Music starts playing like end of a sad movie, it’s the kind of ending you don’t really want to see.
This lyric perfectly shows the kind of feeling it is when you have to part with a friend. You don’t want it to happen, but sometimes it just does. But you get through it and learn to go your way.

TELL ME WHY
Some people don’t like this song as much, but it was one of my favorites when I was younger. It helped me get through some feelings, and it’s actually got some great lyrics and metaphors in it. I think it’s going to sound incredible on the rerecording, and maybe it will get some more love then.
Favorite lyric: You could write a book on how to ruin someone’s perfect day.
Classic cold Taylor lyric. I love it because it’s true. There are some people who just know how to bring you down. But at some point, what they said to you won’t matter. You’ll move on, and grow stronger from all the blows you’ve taken. And hopefully you can just forgive and forget.

YOU’RE NOT SORRY
I haven’t heard this song in a hot minute. She normally performs it as a mashup, but it’s also a great song on it’s own. Sometimes you just have to let people go. No matter how many times they try and make it up to you, if someone is really treating you wrong, you need to move on.
Favorite lyric: And you’ve got your share of secrets and I’m tired of being last to know.
You can clearly see what kind of situation this was. And this lyric, to me, says it all. Sometimes moving on is the best option. And the end of the song shows that she did. It wasn’t going to work for her this time.

THE WAY I LOVED YOU
This song is a fan favorite, and there are so many reasons why it deserves that. It’s another storyteller song. It’s the classic tale of the good boy next door who you are with, and the bad boy who you have chemistry with and want to be back with. I mean this sounds kind of familiar… maybe she was watching Gilmore Girls when she wrote this song.
Favorite lyric: I miss screaming and fighting and kissing in the rain, it’s 2 am and I’m cursing your name.
You can totally see all of this going down, which is hilarious to me. It also has the time 2 am featured, which is a recurring thing in her music. Also, the use of four syllable words is fantastic, since that isn’t common in music anymore.

FOREVER AND ALWAYS
So the album version shows the side of anger, frustration, and passion. The set design for this song was so cool as well and adds to the vibe.
Favorite lyric: Did I say something way to honest that made you run and hide, like a scared little boy.
The way she sings this line here really adds to the feeling of frustration. What’s interesting is that this is one of the few songs that she has confirmed who it is about. So rerecording it must have been interesting, because now she is good friends with that person. I’m interested to hear how this line will be sung.

THE BEST DAY
She wrote this song for her mother, Andrea, and is such a sweet song. This song is actually me and my moms song, and I always think of her when I hear it. My mom is one of the most important people in my life, she has been my cheerleader, has encouraged me to grow, and has taught me so much just by her example. We always have so much fun together, and she doesn’t care if she is goofy or embarrassing, she is just her unique self. We don’t always get along, but even when we do fight, we always make it up and become closer each time. I always have the best time with her, and she always knows how to cheer me up.
Favorite lyric: And daddy’s smart, and you’re the prettiest lady in the whole wide world.
This perfectly describes my parents. My dad is pretty smart, even though he can be wrong sometimes. He knows how to make me laugh as well, and is the greatest at solving problems and giving good advice. And my mom will always be the prettiest lady in the whole wide world to me.

CHANGE
This song is all about growth. That one day, things will get better. You just have to keep fighting, keep going, and it will change. This is another one I’m so excited to hear rerecorded- especially the thirteen second long note. It helped me get through the tough times, because it gave me the hope to hold on to that I would get out of the storms stronger and better. And singing the song ignited that hope even more.
Favorite lyric: They might be bigger, but we’re faster and never scared.
Our trials, our storms, can be bigger than us. They can last for years, and we might think that there is no way we could get through this. But we have an advantage, in that we have hope, and we have skills to help us cope. We just have to keep fighting. And then one day we will be champions.
Well, there you have it. My favorite lyric form each song on the Fearless Platinum edition album. I cannot wait to hear the fully rerecorded album, and to hear the six new songs from the vault.
Which lyric is your favorite? Let me know in the comments!
Until next time š
