Hey y’all! It’s been a while since I’ve done a post like this, so I thought I’d write another installment.
I always love discovering new music; wether it be a new artist, album, or song. I love that feeling that comes with hearing your new favorite song for the first time. The lyrics may be able to speak the words you cannot say, or the melody just makes you want to sing along, or maybe the beat is so sick that you HAVE to dance to it. Finding new music is cool.
I thought I’d share some of my favorite music with you. These are the songs that are either inspiring me, making me want to get out of my seat and dance, or just make me want to sing along.
Lone Wild
Okay so I love this group so much. I actually discovered them through my Instagram account, and was so glad that I decided to listen to their music. They had commented on one of my photos, and I decided to check them out. (By the way, if you are an artist, comment on other artists posts- you never know what will happen!) I listened to their debut album, and I absolutely love it! My favorites are Why Do I Hide? and Savages. They are still a newer band, so go check them out! They are just as good as the bands I just went and saw (you can read about that here), and that’s my honest opinion. There’s links to their music on their site.
Last Chance by Black GryphOn and Baasik
I love this guys music. Black GryphOn (Gabriel Brown) and his brother Baasik have been working on an album for a while now. I love his youtube channel, where he does amazing impressions and the funniest genre switches ever. They just released an album called Diamonds, and I love it so much! My favorite song has to be Last Chance; it’s upbeat, makes you want to move, and has a great message.
Cornelia Street, Paper Rings, and Daylight by Taylor Swift
These are some of the songs off of her latest album Lover. I think these have to be my favorites on the album. Cornelia Street reminds me of a happier All Too Well (a song from her album Red). It tells a story of a budding romance and the very real fear of it ending. Paper Rings is by far my favorite. It’s so upbeat and catchy. It reminds me of early No Doubt, and I would love to see a Ska band cover it. Daylight is the last song on the album, and has some amazing lyrics.
Old Dominion
I had never heard of these guys until they were featured on Songland. I looked them up after, and I can’t believe I hadn’t listened to them before! I’ve always been a fan of country music, because that’s what got me into songwriting. The ability to tell a story in a song is something country music is known for. These guys completely nail that, and it’s very conversational. It feels as if he is talking to you about what happened, and then the chorus comes in. My favorites right now are Break Up With Him, Written In The Sand, and Never Be Sorry
Pill For This by Sam DeRosa
Another artist I discovered through Songland, this girl has some serious talent. She was featured on the episode with Charlie Puth, and was pitching a song for him to record. He ended up not choosing the song, but each artist who gets to work with a producer gets to record and release the song. So she released the song that she pitched. And let me tell you, this girl is going places. I hope she is able to get more music out there, because I love her voice and her songwriting.
Friends Don’t by Maddie and Tae
I love this country duo so much. They have an old school sound to them, but somehow still manage to sound fresh and unlike anything I have heard before. I’m currently in love with this song. It has a nice hook and tells a story, like all good country music should. If you like country music, go check them out- you will not be disappointed.
Rescue Me, Wanted, Somebody to Love- OneRepublic
When they released the song Rescue Me, I was so happy. I used to really love OneRepublic, and loved that they had a cello in their songs. I had seen them twice during the tour for their album Native. They are ten times better live, and definitely put on a good show. They released an album and a few singles afterwards that I really didn’t like or care for. But when Rescue Me came out, I was instantly reminded of why I fell in love with these guys in the first place. They released Wanted not too long after, and then released Somebody to Love from the last episode of Songland. I can’t wait to see what they put out next, and hope I continue to be surprised by it.
Eternal Flame- The Bangles
I love this song, and am trying to learn to play it on guitar (It’s not an easy song to play by the way). This song describes the kind of love I would like to find, and is a sweet ballad that continues to build into the end climax. I love The Bangles and I love any song that can make you feel so strongly.
Mr. Blue Sky- Electric Light Orchestra
This is one of my all time favorite songs. It makes you feel happy and is a great dance track. It tells an interesting story that makes you think. And it blends different styles of music together to create a masterpiece of a song that can’t be recreated. E.L.O. were one of those rare groups where there was no one doing what they were doing in their music, yet there will never be anything quite like them again. I love them so much and they have honestly changed the way I approach my writing. If you haven’t heard this song- I mean, seriously how could you have not heard it- please listen to it. Or just watch Guardians of the Galaxy 2 and see Baby Groot dancing around to it.
Well, I hope you liked this post! What music are you currently listening to? Let me know in the comments!
Until next time š
