One of my favorite things to do is create playlists. I like to pretend I’m a DJ at a party, putting together a special mix that’s perfect for the occasion. I try to pay attention to each songs mood, its vibe, and how it works with the other songs. It’s a fun way to make something that can help boost your mood or help you through a tough time.
Since it’s the summer season, I decided to make a playlist full of songs that make me think of summer. These are songs that remind me of the good memories I’ve had, songs that you can drive with the top down to, and songs that make you want to dance. So I thought I would share my summer playlist with you, and share some tips on how you can create a summer themed playlist of your own!

Some tips on creating your own summer playlist:
- Think of songs that remind you of your favorite summer memories. Did you go to one of your favorite concerts and the crowd was dancing and singing the lyrics? Did you go to the beach one summer and have the best time? Or maybe you were able to hang out with your friends and family, and created amazing memories in your living room? Put the songs that make you think of those memories on your list.
- Include songs that are upbeat, or even have the word “summer” in them. This one seems kind of obvious, but sometimes when we create a playlist, we just autocorrect to “put every song in my library on here”. I’m definitely guilty of that (not every Imagine Dragons and Taylor Swift song needs to be on a playlist). So it’s helpful to think of what songs are upbeat and really make you think of summer. If you’re having a hard time, look for songs that have the word “summer” or even “beach” in them.
- You don’t have to stick with one genre. I’m someone who loves all kinds of music, so I tend to put music from different genres and eras of music. So if you like more than just one genre, don’t feel as if you only have to put one type of music on the playlist. Unless that’s what you want to do, then by all means, please do that. This is YOUR playlist, so make it the way you want to make it.
- Pay attention to length. I’m not going to lie, I tend to make really long playlists. I’m sorry that this one is so long, I just kept thinking of more songs to include. Despite that, it’s still important to pay attention to the length. You want to make sure that it’s not so long that you never get to hear all of the songs. This playlist is 40 songs, because that’s the right amount for a long day when I need some good summer vibes.
- And lastly, just have fun with it. This is your playlist, so just have fun making it and listening to the songs over and over again.
